Job Title: Medical Coding Specialist

Department: Physician's Practice

Supervisor: Practice Manager

Job Objective: Responsible for accurate application of medical codes for physician encounters in outpatient physician's practice, and inpatient nursing home settings. Also responsible for organized maintenance of records for delivery to outside billing vendor.

Schedule: Part-time 5 to 8 hrs. (Flex Hours - Evenings/Weekends) This position is NOT remote. 

 

DUTIES

Job Standards

1.Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions, including use of modifiers, medical terminology, federal regulations for documentation and billing.

2.Ability to work independently.

3.Familiarity with both inpatient nursing home setting and outpatient private practice setting coding implications, preferred.

4.Ability to meet time-sensitive demands and deadlines

5.Ability to learn and navigate electronic medical record system to ascertain patient or encounter information.

 

Essential Job Functions

1.Analyze encounter notes and apply accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions, utilizing appropriate modifiers as necessary.

2.Ensure quality and integrity of coding process, adhering to coding guidelines and requirements.

3.Organize records for deliver to billing personnel.

4.Maintain knowledge of current developments in coding and billing principles, including federal regulations and guidelines for documentation.

5.Maintain and update patient database related to billing and coding process.

6.Hold positive working relationship with physicians and office personnel.

7.Maintain patient confidentiality.

8.All other coding and billing requests as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School/GED

Experience: 1 year medical coding experience

Licensure: Certified Professional Coder
