Job Title: AL Activity Assistant

Department: Assisted Living

Supervisor: Director of Assisted Living

Job Objective: To lead activities with Assisted Living Residents

Schedule: Every Saturday & Sunday - 9:30am - 3:30pm


Minimum Qualifications


High school diploma or GED


Major work in gerontology nursing or Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Two years' experience in recreation field with an adult population considered.



Essential Job Functions

  1. Lead activities appropriate for all levels of Assisted Living Residents.
  2. Assist with Resident special events in Assisted Living Household and throughout Jewish Senior Services.
  3. Provide assistance to Residents during mealtimes in a mature, dignified manner.
  4. Assist in transporting Residents by wheelchair or escort ambulatory Residents to activities.
  5. Possess a passion for working with the senior population and improving their quality of life.
  6. Team player who is creative, energetic, enthusiastic, patient, flexible, personable, reliable and a good communicator.
  7. Provide outstanding customer service to all Residents, family members, responsible persons and visitors of Residents in the community.
  8. Work independently to achieve objectives.
  9. Create a positive atmosphere and a variety of engaging activities.
  10. Demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities consistent with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.




Basic understanding of Alzheimer's and other dementia-related diseases is essential. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills. Basic typing skills and computer knowledge; familiarity with MS word, excel, publisher and creative software.


Physical and Mental Requirements

  1. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  2. Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
  3. Able to hear normal sounds within some background of noise as in answering the phone, intercom, etc.
  4. Visual acuity to see computer and read printed documents.
  5. Ability to distinguish color.
  6. Ability to concentrate on fine details with interruptions.
  7. Ability to attend to tasks/functions for more than 60 minutes at a time.
  8. Ability to understand and relate to the reasons behind several related concepts.
  9. Ability to remember multiple tasks /assignments given to self and others over long periods of time.
  10. Ability to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, filing, etc.
  11. Ability to perform tasks which require hand eye coordination such as keyboard skills, writing or picking up paper.


Environmental Conditions


  1. Rare exposure to blood, body tissue or fluids.
  2. Possible exposure to high/low temperatures.
